Cotton Valley Producers
The Cotton Valley play was initially developed in the 1950s using conventional vertical drilling and completion techniques. Beginning in the early 2000s, advances in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing enabled operators to contact substantially greater reservoir volumes with fewer wells, significantly improving oil and natural gas recovery while enhancing project economics.
New Century's Duke 1H well, located in Harrison County, Texas, was one of the area's standout Cotton Valley completions, achieving an initial production rate exceeding 7,000 MCF of natural gas per day. The well demonstrated the exceptional productivity and reservoir quality present within this portion of the play.
Building upon the success of the Duke 1H, the Duke 2H was subsequently drilled to further develop this extensive reservoir system. The performance of these wells highlights the continuing value of modern completion technology applied to proven legacy fields and underscores the significant remaining resource potential within the Cotton Valley trend.
